My friend is a graphic designer and, although she likes designing wonderful exciting things, much of her business is designing Business Cards for young businesses. Although she likes designing Business Cards to some extent, she is longing to get into the more exciting aspects of design and is constantly telling me how bad she feels that all she ever gets to design are Business Cards. We met for a drink a couple of months ago and she was really feeling low about the fact that she was not feeling professionally fulfilled. However, I told her that she needed to think a little longer term before getting depressed about her work. I told her to think about what would happen when all of the people she had designed Business Cards for were having real success in their businesses. I said to her that they would look back at who designed for them and think of her immediately. She would surely reap the rewards when they wanted a much larger job completing. She seemed to take on board what I said and, as I predicted, a month down the line she got a really large job from one of the companies she had worked for earlier.
